There’s a big difference between “an accomplished musician” and “an accomplished music teacher.” Instructors need musical skills to teach well, but not every musician has what it takes to instruct kids in learning an instrument. For parents, sorting the rockstars from the all-star teachers is a challenge. That’s why we’ve taken matters into our own hands!
How Music Matters Chooses Teachers
How can you be sure that your child is getting the best musical education in Alpharetta? Just take a look at our instructors! We don’t just snatch up the first accomplished musician looking for a teaching job. Our music pros carefully evaluate each potential teacher to ensure they bring skill, experience, creativity, and patience–everything a child needs in a music teacher.
- Skill. Being good at an instrument isn’t what makes a good music teacher, but it is a basic requirement for instructing. Simply put, if you can’t play, you have no business teaching.
- Passion for music. Knowing how to play and loving music aren’t always the same thing. An instructor with a passion for playing will pass the love of the instrument on to her students. Our teachers are all experience musicians who play shows whenever they can!
- Creativity. Some kids will practice for hours on their own. Others will complain all night before they buckle down and play. A good teacher is creative enough to teach each child in a way they’ll understand, helping them become more skilled without burning them out. (No, we’re not giving your kids an excuse not to practice!)
- Caring. If there’s one quality that epitomizes what it takes to teach lessons at Music Matters, this is it. A caring teacher pays attention to their students’ progress, learns the skills and struggles of each individual kid, and connects with their students in a way that makes them both better musicians and more creative, compassionate, purposeful individuals. When you think back to your own childhood, your favorite teachers were the ones who connected on your level to help you improve. That’s what it means to be a Music Matters teacher!
