RockU BackStageNow You Can at Music Matters!

Music Matters has developed an innovative band program which takes music education to unimaginable decibels. The Music Matters Rock U program allows young musicians to join a band, compose music, learn and perform in an organized environment here at Music Matters. The program is designed to incorporate musical instruction while allowing each musician to experience the excitement and thrill of performing in front of a live audience.

How Does it Work?

Each musician is placed in a band based on age and experience level. Already in a band? Music Matters welcomes you to sign-up your entire band! Each band is given a specific weekly rehearsal time and day for the entire Rock U season.

RockU Girls BandRehearsals

Each band rehearsal consists of weekly hour (or two-hour) sessions at your preferred Music Matters store location. All studios are fully equipped with high-end amplifiers, drum kit, keyboard, microphones and recording equipment. We ask all guitarist and bassists to bring their own instruments to rehearsal. Pedals, “stompboxes,” pedal-boards, and cords can be brought if desired.

Concerts & Performances

Every eight weeks during the Rock U show season, students will get the chance to perform. The bands perform a sound check as they prepare to show off their hard work and new skills to parents, family and friends. Each band performs on stage and can expect a real rock concert experience including a professional sound and light production! An incredible opportunity to be a rock star for the evening!

Who Can Do It?

  • Band members are typically 7 to 17 years old.
  • All instruments are welcome!
  • Must have familiarity with your instrument (i.e. able to play a few songs.)
  • No band experience necessary!

Where Do You Perform?

Previous Rock U bands have rocked these stages:

  • Centerstage/Vinyl
  • Sweetwater 420 Festival
  • 595 North
  • Terminal West
  • Smith’s Olde Bar
  • Andrew’s Upstairs
